General Severo Tattic
Wild Elf - Templar - Male
Story:
General Severo Tattic is often considered to be the last commander of the Lord of War, Daelrion. Estlemerian accounts of the General describe him before his rise to infamy and glory as simply a juvenile woad of the Jehn’Kurro tribe. He was known to be a skilled dabbler in combative magic, martial form, and military tactics, as well as a staunch loyalist to the reigning King of the Woad Talor’gen. Only the Old God Daelrion he viewed in higher standing. He followed his mortal ruler through thick and thin, from Noor’Neld Haran to confronting human colonials in the Ebon Wood, earning the respect of his peers and recognition from his leader. The young Panther was made a ranger and fronted many raiding forays upon those who would lay waste to the land.
It was not a season before the wards went up when the forces of the then blooming Kingdom of Estlemere slew Talor’gen. Without direction the woad front collapsed. Severo was out ranging at the time but when informed of his king’s passing he took it severely to heart. A strong number of the more youthful woad were reported to have flocked to him for guidance. It was in the defense of his fellow elves that he overexerted his casting and was subsequently touched by the Undying. Those he had defended took note of his bravery and rallied together to save him. Despite his malignant condition they still followed him. The ranger pushed north vowing to protect the natural world from further encroachment and so he held true to his oath until the blight overtook him. In his last moments Severo ordered his people to find the rest of the woad and remain to defend their lands. It is said by those of his tribe that he fled neither out of cowardice nor shame but so he could do them no harm.
Centuries passed without knowledge as to what doom had befallen Severo. It is clear, though, that at a time the Undying Lords did see potential in him. During the escalation of the Shadow War he was promoted to lead the reserve of their forces. His forceful strategies and precise implementations led to the dousing of countless sparks of resistance, though upon each bloodsoaked victory did his soul ignite in revolt. Gradually the grip of the Undying upon him eased and he slowly clawed away at regaining his own will. The weight of failed morality, the acts of atrocity he had ordered committed and the metal he had bore as protection, burdened his mind as it tore itself free. Yet the General maintained his position for a bitter campaign was about to be waged.
The Undying Lords had dried up their readied supplies so voraciously they sought out alternative avenues to acquire further resources for weaponry and siegecraft. They turned their gaze northwards to the only land still untouched by their influence. The Ebon Wood had harboured a growing resistance of woad, fae, savar, and other nature-faring peoples. In addition there were a small number of Old Ones who still watched over them. Daelrion had been planning for the defence of the woods since His arrival but even the Lord of War had no strategy formidable enough to overcome the hordes of the Undying whose numbers boundlessly dwarfed the northerners' own. It was fated that the Undying Lords sent their reserve under Severo to claim the Ebon Wood.
At the north’s natural borders the two factions met: one to conquer and the other to survive. Upon the outset of the conflict Severo feigned fealty to the Undying. So flawless was his deception that those of the reserve still followed him, daring not to question their commander's unique display. He walked in front of his ranks, lifted one of his twinned blades to his gut, then carved into his pristine plate crude etchings of two swords crossing to meet at each other's hilt. Daelrion saw His symbol across the opponent’s breast and so it was recorded that the Lord of War gave his final smile, stating simply "welcome home".
Death: History chronicles that the woodland defenders overcame the greater force and the Undying Lords never again grasped at the north. However, a great deal was sacrificed to achieve this crimson triumph. First hand accounts of the Battle of Ebon describe the revered elven commander to have been felled alongside his true deity, the Lord of War.
Spirit Item Description: As reward for exceptional service the elite of King Talorgen’s ranks received an Emblem of Gaia’s Bounty, a pendant carved from the wood of a willing treant. It is said that the medals would bind to their souls and could grant them nature’s protection against their enemies.
